Artist Statement

My personal practice of religious tradition, reading of sacred scripture and prayer heartens my passion to create and explore in my artistic practice. My body of work explores and contemplates the mysterious ways in which God reveals Himself to His people throughout time. Throughout my life God has revealed to me in small yet meaningful ways how scripture and tradition are passionately universal and deeply personal and intertwined. Over time, my intellectual knowledge of Jesus and His heart has been given to me in layers of grace. While I do not have answers or complete comprehensiveness of these mysteries, I find assuredness in God’s divine design. As I meditate on these things, I also examine the layering and veiling of materials in my studio with a variety of textiles, glass, ceramic, dye and glaze. These materials are found, collected or given to me, and I combine them in ways that allude to Christian iconography and Biblical stories.
