Why I Teach & Teaching Philosophy

Why I Teach
I teach art because I want to empathize with students. Art is all about empathy; in that the artist creates something that expresses something imaginative with a purpose. The viewer tries to recognize that purpose, reflect upon that purpose, and empathize with that purpose. Each and every student is an artist with the capacity to bring into the world something that was not there until they created it, with some sort of purpose, whether they are thinking about a career in the visual arts or not. Students have the ability to be constructive of something new rather than destructive of something that is already there.
My goal is to empathize with students, through advocating for who they are and what they create. My goal is also for them to empathize with others; their classmates, their family, people who are similar to them and people who are different than them.
